According to Enrico Camelio, Arsenal has even initiated discussions with the Italian champions about a prospective trade and wants to get Sandro Tonali from AC Milan this summer.

The new campaign was launched in spectacular fashion by Mikel Arteta’s team. Arsenal supporters don’t have many complaints about the team’s performance on the night after they picked up a stunning victory over Crystal Palace away from home.

The transfer market is still open, though, and Arteta stated after the game that the Gunners would aim to strengthen their roster even further, so there is still a chance for at least one new acquisition in this window.

The next name to emerge from the rumor mill is Tonali, who is widely expected to be a new midfielder.

Sandro Tonali from AC Milan is a target for Arsenal.
The fact that Arsenal is looking to add a new midfielder is no secret. The player that has received the most attention is Youri Tielemans, but since the Gunners haven’t made a bid for him, some have begun to speculate that Arteta may be considering someone else.

According to Camelio, a transfer insider on Radio Kiss Kiss, the Gunners are interested in Tonali and have even spoken with AC Milan about a prospective transfer.

He stated to CalcioMercato.it that Milan and Arsenal had a meeting and discussed Tonali.

The midfielder has been classified non-transferable by the Rossoneri, although Milan might sell him and make two purchases if an offer of €55 million (£46.4 million) is received.

Before the transfer window closes, Arsenal could absolutely need a new midfielder, and youthful Tonali is a very intriguing prospect.

The 22-year-old was previously referred to as the Italian heir apparent to Andrea Pirlo. In all competitions last season, he made 45 appearances for Milan and was a key contributor to their Scudetto victory.

In Italy, Tonali is regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation. He is a footballer with incredible talent; Paolo Maldini even went so far as to call him a player with “enormous” characteristics.

The Italian, though, is more of a number six than an eight. Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga can also play there, in addition to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, who already fill that position for Arsenal.

This makes us question whether Tonali is even necessary for Arsenal, but Arteta has a style of working that is cryptic, so if his interest in Tonali is sincere, he may have a plan for the gifted Italian.
